Red Wine Tasting: Month 2 Reviews

Alright alright alright, here we go again! Red wine tasting part two. Had some fun adventures with tasting some new ones over the holidays and I have to say I was not a huge fan of this grouping.

For those who are new here, this white wine loving mama is on a mission to find some red wines that she enjoys. So far we are really heavy on the Pinot Noir train, but mixed in two others this time around. The Pinot Noir leaning journey I have been on has not been intentional, but rather just what people around me have recommended and also enjoy. This time I also got to mix in a nice Italian red, which was not my favorite. But you'll have to read on to hear about that experience. Overall, I have been loving this adventure.

Decoy: Pinot Noir - Was a winner from the start! Honestly all I had to do was read the label for this one because I am a huge fan of the Decoy whites (their Sauvignon Blanc is my at home go to). This was definitely on the lighter side, almost forgot I was drinking a red a few times, but it was delicious!

Meiomi: Pinot Noir - Here is where we went wrong. When I was doing the tasting in stories of this one I actually got several comments that this one gives people headaches. I did not experience that but, but it definitely left a taste in my mouth with each sip that was not my favorite. We had two bottles of this on hand and ended up using the second one for a mulled wine and THAT was delicious!

The Prisoner: Red Blend - This one was good! Definitely a bit heavier than the Pinot Noir's that I have been tasting, but I enjoyed this one. It was definitely a two glasses and done because of how heavy it was which was nice around the holidays on a cool evening.

Cantina Zaccagnini: Montepulciano - Ok here is where we went wrong with this tasting! It was good on first sip, but quickly made my head hurt halfway through the first glass. It was way too intense for me and did not go down smooth at all. I think that I need a few more red wine bottles under my belt to develop the palette a bit more before trying this one again.

Don't worry - I am ready for that challenge! Bring on the February tasting!

Cheers,

E
