Austin Travel Guide
So, Austin is a strange town y’all. Don’t get me wrong… we loved it, but it was definitely different than we expected.
We stayed at an adorable Air BnB in South Congress, Austin that was walking distance from the main drag of SoCo. Here is where the part comes in that we didn’t expect, everything is pretty scattered and far from each other and requires a Lyft to get from point A to B. We certainly made the most of it with walking, bikes and lifts but it definitely was more of an adventure than I think we had planned. Point is bring your Apple Pay for transport and walking shoes for the times you don’t want want pay.
We did however eat and drink at some awesome spots and here is our list for spots to not miss and why:
La Condesa - No words for this spot!! Our favorite of the week and coincidentally the last meal! Tex-mex that you cannot believe and drinks to bring the house down. We had the most amazing service that I think I will always compare service to. A++
Salt Lick BBQ - FINGER LICKING F*CKING GOOD! Not not just because we stopped there on our wine tour with Texas Tipsy Tours - but the BBQ was out of this world and is so worth the drive.
Eberly - SO let me tell you about Eberly. We had decided to go because the “influencers” recommended it. And let me tell you… Decor - Awesome. Food - Delish. Clientele - Old. I think it was definitely worth a quite brunch for a friend but If you’re looking for a lively boozy one, then pass.
The Line Hotel - Looking for a great happy hour spot with an epic view ( especially during bat season - which we were not in)? The Line was the perfect spot for yummy cocktails, tasty bites and a great pre-dinner spot!
Laundrette - While we literally biked many miles to get there (easier with an Uber or Lyft… see above) it was so worth it. Delicious grilled cheese and tomato soup, beautiful minimal ambiance, delish rose and a cozy decor.
Justine’s - Just don’t. While I think it was probably fun in its’ glory days, it was very far from literally everything, the service was not great and the food was over priced. We did have great glasses of French wine and we found some random diner across the street that was worth a drink (just not wine)!
Here nor There - Be aware that the door to this little spot is not the one that looks like an apartment building and if you do buzz up to it the guy that lives there will not be happy... it’s the alley next to it. Exclusive little semi private bar that has incredibly inventive and interesting cocktails! Worth the hassle of trying to get in.
