tablescapes 101

For my clients I style a lot of tablescapes, for shoots, for events, for parties, for weddings… many, many tablescapes. But the one that I rarely style is my own, hardly ever. Most nights my table is just a mix of a pile of work things, bags, random kitchen utensils and whatever food is stuck to the table from lunch. But every once in a blue moon I do a nice buffet or dinner spread.

I think that most people probably find setting a table to be the most daunting task because they don’t feel they have the right pieces to fill their table in an aesthetically pleasing way. But you DO! Or at least you can pull it together very easily… I swear!

A few quick elements to elevate your next tablescape:

1.    Chargers! Don’t have an actual charger? That’s ok just layer a bowl or salad plate. They don’t even have to be the same, mix and match for a more fun setting!

2.    Napkin. Fold.. Always have one. Even if it’s a paper towel. Just do it! If you have a napkin ring then great! Otherwise, just find a fold that fits nicely with your plates.

3.    Complete the setting… Not for the queen obviously, but make sure you have everything your guests need and maybe one little extra touch. Plates, bowls, silverware, glassware, napkin.

4.    Centerpiece’s are life! Find a vase, a bowl, a mug (or several) and put florals in it. Trader Joe’s has the cheapest easiest florals to pull together.

5.    A runner OR candles depending on if you are doing family style or not. I have literally made a runner out of ripping up a bed sheet. But you can also get really affordable gauze runners on amazon for “nothing”

Et Voila! An elevated tablescape for a simple sinner with friends!

Enjoy!
