Kids Birthday Party Checklist
With three kids, and almost a dozen birthday parties between them under my belt, I have come up with a bit of a formula for how every birthday party is executed. It is a well calculated check list that results in a fun day for all!
I like to start the process now with asking the kids what they want to theme to be (sometimes I nudge them along the way a bit since I already know what decor is available for certain things). This year Cannon was starting to get into superheroes and their respective villains. So, with a little help from mom and some creative Pinterest exploration, we chose an over arching superhero theme - complete with the crash, bang, pow's!
So, once the theme is picked, I hit the interwebs to find some small decor items to enhance the theme, this is never more than a goodie bag, some cupcake tops or a banner or two. Next are the balloon arches, or clusters. Balloons enhance any theme and get kids excited every single time. This year we used the professionals, but there are some great kits for balloon arch DIY at home. Top off the decor with goodie bags and a pinata!
Now, comes the tricky part, a special activity. This can be anything a craft, a special guest, an activity, it can literally be anything. We've had a reptile zoo, ponies, and this year was an ironman impersonator. It should not last the entire time, just about 1/3 of the total time and give the parents a break from chasing after kids for a short period of time.
Last but not least let's talk food and dessert. For food, I generally keep it simple and pick a few easy items from the local grocery store catering, our go-to is Wegmans. I always recommend a cake that is special, but keep it small, don't over order on the cake. And I top it all off with some homemade treats.
